Cat of the Week #13: Love, the guardian of Cafe Nonno

Located in Shiga-ken’s Omihachiman’s old town district, there lives a cat who gets famous because of his way of saying thanks to the human who adopts him. This approximately 1 year old cat is named “Rabu” (らぶ), or “Love” in japanese and he lives with the owner of Cafe Nonno (町家 Cafe NONNO / カフェ ノンノ).

Love the cat loves to sit and guard in front of Cafe Nonno during opening hours.

The reason behind his rise of fame is because he voluntarily becomes the protector of Cafe Nonno and resembles a maneki neko.

If a cat is willing to stay in front of a cafe, that cafe is definitely extra attractive.

Love was adopted by Cafe Nonno’s owner. According to the owner, Love was found as a lost cat in front of a nearby museum. The owner took the cat home and gave him a temporary name called Rabu/Love because of a heart shaped pattern on his nose.

The heart shaped nose is not obvious but once you saw it, it is tough to miss.

While the owner waits for Love’s possible former owner to claim the cat, he brings Love to work and back on daily basis. The owner noticed that Love enjoys observing customers and pedestrians by sitting outside the cafe, as if Love is guarding the cafe.

Are you staring at my nose?

Love gained a lot of attention from customers and passerby. Everyone praises Love being cute and loyal. Love’s adorable behaviour makes human enjoy snapping picture of Love in front of the cafe and then tweet or post to social networking sites.

Nobody claims Love back. Cafe Nonno’s owner decided to make Love as the official resident of his house and also the guardian of the Cafe. Cardboard stations, food and drinks, pillows and cat friendly items have been set up in storefront to keep Love comfortable.

Love's station is quite spacious. On top of that, it is made of CARDBOARD BOXES!

"Go on, you tip tip I nap nap." Love as a successful maneki neko when not guarding.

The story of Love guarding the cafe owner as a symbol of gratitude is quite well known now.

Some may think that the owner might be forcing the cat to stay outside of the cafe, but the truth is Love is volunteering to stay there. This is because the owner also owns other cats but only Love is interested in being the guardian.

Even though he likes to protect his owner and the cafe, he is still a prince at home.

The owner also added that Love loves to butt-in in between the owner and costumers, trying to join in the human conversations, and also snatching attention when the owner is socializing with his other cats.

Cat of the Week #11: Nono, the sitting cat who relaxed like a human

I bet most of you had seen this clip of a cat sitting upright in the park while holding onto the fence. It went viral because of its simple combination of the cat, relaxing music (even though it is from iMovies) and lovely evening in the park makes life looks wonderful. If you have not seen it, you must:

If you ever feel curious about the settings and if the cat was alone, we say that this is the cat’s routine in the park. You can read about its behind-the-scene here.

Nono chills on the fence while enjoying the sunset.

"Look at my feet," those dainty lil feet are just cute.

Another chill evening of sitting by the fence and feeling good, eh?

This cat is named Nono (のの or ののちゃん because he is such a fine gentlemen). He is 12 years old and he lives in Yokohama, Japan.

Meet Nono-chan, the cat who sits and chill.

Nono is a cute and cool cat.

A recently added clip from Nono-chan’s owner shows that Nono loves to chill.

After the first hit of Nono sitting on the fence, we have a latest clip of Nono sitting on a white plastic chair!

If you follow Nono’s blog, you might noticed that Nono always sits like a mermaid. This is because Nono was sick and had went through surgeries from the vet. Most probably the paralysis was caused by the illness? Even though Nono is not a physically healthy cat, he is well loved. His owner loves him so much: Nono always get to eat good fishes and frequently being taken to the park for fresh air.

"Ambush! Wait, I think I will just nap here..."

Aside from the fence and the bench, sitting on the side of the road is fun too.

Nono is a very cute cat. Life is great to know that Nono is loved. Let’s hope everything goes well for him  ❤

Nono is a very cool cat. We love him so much.

Cat of the Week #10: Tard, the grumpy cat.

Cats are loved by the internet. On the last week, one new cat had gone viral through a Reddit post. Meet Tard, the grumpy cat.

The picture that sparks the fame of a grumpy cat named Tard.

Tard is the daughter of two common housecats. Her name originated from “tartar sauce”. She is around 9 months old when her picture went viral.

Another angle of Tard with a grumpy face.

She might look like a snowshoe, but she is not.

"Nothing to see here, move along." Tard sitting with a grumpy look.

The owner suspects that she is a dwarf kitty. Her back legs don’t work well and she tends to fall over. Good news are Tard’s personality is not as grumpy as her look and the personality that she portrays is the same as a normal cat.

Tard's a dwarf kitty, a very cute dwarf kitty.

Even though her movements are not as agile as normal cats, she is cute!

Tard is in the middle of a good belly rub.

A short clip of grumpy cat’s belly rub time!

Aside from Tard being the special one in the litter, there is another cat having the same mutation: her brother, Pokey the tuxedo. Regardless of their appearance, they are living a good life.

Meet Pokey the tuxedo, Tard's brother. Together we have grumpy cats.

This is the picture of Pokey and Tard’s mother. Apparently she looks like a normal calico.

Tard's parents are actually two normal looking cats. This is Tard's mom.

More videos of Tard the grumpy cat can be found here.

Cat of the Week #9: The cat with crown

Tokuhiro Kawai (川井徳寛) is a surrealist painter from Tokyo. He creates fairy-tale like surreal paintings through traditional oil techniques. His creations are beautiful, dramatic, fun and fascinating but one of his painted subject might have exceed him in gaining recognition on the cyberspace: the bicolor scottish fold king cat with crown.

The first oil painting of the Scottish fold living the dream. ("Idea of a Certain Cat", 2004, Oil and Tempera on Board)

The cat in the painting looks familiar to you? Maybe it is because you have seen the other famous painting in reddit / tumblr / facebook / pinterest / blogs:

If a cat understands the concept of royalty, will this be a cat's default portrayal? ("飼い猫の幻視 / Tame Cat’s Delusion", 2006, Oil on Canvas)

Tokuhiro Kawai told Vice that “Tame Cat’s Delusion” is a painted scene showing the eternal fulfillment of the cat who desires to be the boss of the world and being crowned by angels and becomes a king. More cats in the same style:

More cats! Glorious cats doing the best they can in whatever cats do. ("燻る思考たち / Smolder Thinking", 2008, Oil on Canvas)

Sometimes we will think: how do cats actually perceive everything around them? Is it all about living a simple life or they think they rule everything? Where do these cherubs come from?

The Scottish fold living the life. ("猫のなりわい / The occupation of a cat" 2010, oil on canvas)

The cats look cute and real because of their well painted furs, cats’ expressions and the artist’s oil painting technique. All details add up to a lively cute cat with thoughts of its own.

The scottish fold being portrayed as the one who has drumstick in mind. ("それぞれの思考 / Each idea", 2005, oil and tempera on board)

The scottish fold with crown is a crowd’s favorite for it expresses the cat’s thoughts and feeling well. One of the netizen tried to dress a look-alike pet cat with red handkerchief but the result is hilarious.

When life imitates art, hilarity ensues. Note: The real cat is not the cat in the painting.

We are not sure if Tokuhiro Kawai’s scottish fold is based on a real Scottish fold. We hope it is; based on the cat’s colour pattern on the series are quite consistent. For now, all we knew is that Tokuhiro Kawai had 2 family cats in his life: the first cat lived for 16 years until Tokuhiro Kawai is 12 years old and the second cat lived for 19 years since Tokuhiro Kawai was 17. He no longer keeps a cat so cat is not the main subject in his paintings… for now.

Check out Tokuhiro Kawai’s other artworks at this site and also his blog. His cat-less paintings are awesome too.

Cat of the Week #6: Georgie, grandma’s holiday cosplay cat

Ever since redditor Ska_Jones‘s grandma received a camera phone for Christmas of 2011, his grandma has been sending him pictures of Georgie the cat in various costumes for each holiday. This is the original post of where it gets viral and the following picture was sent to celebrate Ska_Jones’s birthday:

Georgie wearing grandma's handmade birthday costume. We doubt she knew what's going on.

Georgie’s expression is definitely hilarious for trying to comprehend the whole situation while being uninterested to participate in everything; a classic cat behaviour. The post received a lot of responses and visual description of the incident.

A crowd favorite response from shitty_watercolor towards Georgie the cat perfectly captures the conflict inside Georgie.

Another popular visual response to Georgie the cat in birthday costume by Shitty_EtchASketch.

The crowd demands for more of Georgie in various holiday costumes after Ska_Jones claimed that he has more pictures of Georgie sent by his grandma. Five days after the original post, Ska_Jones delivers. Pictures of Georgie in various holiday costumes are placed in an imgur album and might have new addition whenever possible. Georgie the cat looks great in her costumes, albeit with an unimpressed expression written on her kitty face.

Just Georgie being patriotic (?) on 4th of July.

The sombrero for Cinco de Mayo is a bit heavy for Georgie.

Only Georgie can handle such big easter bunny ears.

Personal favorite: veteran's day Georgie.

All green for St. Patrick's day.

Fancy to fish on father's day?

Happy mother's day!

Always on top of the trend, Georgie transform into the breaded cat.

We love Georgie and the cool grandma. We sure hope to see Georgie in halloween costumes, that would be fun!

Cat of the Week #4: Pía and Nona, the cats of Patio Bellavista

For those who went to Santiago must have heard of Patio Bellavista, a famous patio located in barrio Bellavista, the most happening bohemian quarter in the middle of Santiago where everyone hang out for night life. Team Catmoji found out that there is a pair of famous cat sisters living in Patio Bellavista. The sisters, Pía and Nona, in black and white tuxedo coat has been living in a confectionary and tobacco shop called Tío Manolo for years.

Tío Manolo is located in the northwest tunnel-entrance of Patio Bellavista.

The tux sisters were named after the Pío Nono street in front of Patio Bellavista. Pía has long hair and Nona has short hair. The tux sisters are one of the main unofficial attraction because everyone finds them cute to sleep together, curl up into two big balls on the shop’s doormat.

First night encountering the tux sisters with Nona on the left and Pía on the right.

The tux sisters can be seen either on the doormat or under the bench.

A stretching Nona and Pía having a good head scratch while the shop owner closes the shop.

On the next night, we went to check if they are still there:

Tux sisters are curling up together during Santiago's mid winter.

The sisters are used to the present of tourists and pedestrians. The only thing that can catch their attention is leash-wearing dogs.

Tux sisters are contented with their doormat, medical care, cat food and occasional head scratch from pedestrians. They are always together.

As of team Catmoji’s last visit to the tux sisters on early August, the cats are still there.

The cats of Patio Bellavista is still there: Nona on the doormat and Pía on the bench.

Pía the cat sat on the bench, keeping an eye on everyone.

Nona sat on the doormat whole day because she has eye infection. Don't worry, she might had already visited the vet and she is taking a rest.

Team Catmoji wishes the best to the cats of Patio Bellavista. The tux sisters are the charm of the patio that keeps the team to visit the place from time to time just to catch a glimpse of the sisters. We left Santiago the day after the last batch of pictures so keep us posted about the tux sisters if you happen to visit that place.

Cat of the Week #1: Peppercats

Everyone in Catmoji loves cats, so the team had decided to start a new weekly section in our blog: Cat of the Week! We will showcase one interesting cat on weekly basis. Featured cat can be a cat celebrity, rescued cat with remarkable stories, cat with a grumpy face, or a random tabby in its weird sleeping pose. We knew that cats are charming and unintentionally hilarious so we will discuss about cats that caught our attention.

As the first issue of CotW, we picked one of the staffs’ all time favorite cats: Peppercats! The lead cataker of Catmoji loves cats with rounded head and chubby cheeks, especially cats with their pouty mouths form a smile and stick out of their ball-shaped head like a bump.

Helia Peppercats: you don't want to mess with this cat. She's more famous than you are.

Obviously Helia is a subject of love at first sight.

Helia IS the Catmoji cataker’s dream cat.

You might noticed that Helia is a familiar looking cat. This is because she is already famous as a meme: starecat / grafics cat.

The internet is a serious business.

Since she is owned by a russian breeder and her ancestries can be traced, we wonder if her family members share the teddy bear appearance (massive rounded head, huge eyes, upturned mouth).
