Cat of the Week #15: The Van cat who befriends a fox

Recently there is an amazing news about the friendship between a fox and a cat by Lake Van, Turkey. Çitören, a village located at 25km from the city center, lives a pair of best friends by its harbour.

A cat and a fox have formed a unique friendship by Lake Van, Turkey.

Their friendship was formed and sustained for more than one year. It all began by a simple act of sharing fishes given by local fisherman. The duo are often seen together on play time.

Tickle wrestle, a friendly match between cat and fox with friendship of more than a year.

Locals and fishermen are amused by this duo. They have never seen fox pairs up with cat and form such great friendship.

The locals love this duo and fishermen are told not to hurt the animals. The locals also admit that sometimes they are jealous (in a good way) of the friendship between the Van cat and the fox.

"You see that stalker with a black thing that gives out weird noises?" "Yeah."

Their friendship is so solid, they were seen treating each other with fishes given by fishermen. The locals love to feed them because they are impressed by their friendship.

Fox and cat plays wrestle and nobody gets hurt.

They are seen playing together everyday by the harbour for more than one year, entertaining the locals and fishermen because everyone is happier after watching the cat and the fox play by the rocks.

It takes a lot of trust for a cat to show its belly... or is it a trap?

"Look at the birds." "Nope, wrestling time."

The cat and the fox are going to be each other's best friend for life.

Cat of the Week #14: Mary Jane, the bike courier’s companion.

Meet Mary Jane the tabby cat, the companion of Rudi Saldia, a 25 years old Philadelphia bike courier for IDS.

Rudi Saldia and Mary Jane (MJ in short) posing in front of Rudi's bicycle.

Mary Jane was born on April’s fool 2012 in a closet drawer of Rudi’s bedroom. While MJ’s siblings found new homes, MJ becomes Rudi’s first cat because MJ is very attached to Rudi and his girlfriend.

It took Rudi months of training to get MJ used to travelling on his shoulder, and now the pair easily manages 25 miles.

Rudi found out that MJ is capable to perch on his shoulder so he decided to allow MJ to ride on his shoulder when he is out to deliver packages on bike.

Young MJ on Rudi's shoulder.

From single block to 25 miles, Rudi hopes MJ can do 100 miles by next September. This is a short clip of MJ taking a ride with Rudi:

Obviously MJ loves to be on Rudi’s shoulder while roaming the city. You can tell that MJ feels safe and comfortable on Rudi’s shoulder and she never perch with her claws on.

Watching the world move while perching on owner's shoulder must be more fun than cat-TV.

Rudi has trained and handled sugar gliders to perch on his shoulder so MJ was a success out of Rudi’s curiosity. People on the streets were amazed by a cat that rides on a cyclist’s shoulder and the reactions are positive.

"Oh my, a cat on the cyclist's shoulder!"

Receiving your parcel is fun but the fun meter goes up when delivered by Rudi and MJ.

It is said that speed and dogs are not a problem to MJ but odd sirens are. Rudi will sprint if they encounter noisy vehicles, to make MJ feels safe. MJ also enjoys the buzz of the streets. The duo were seen eating in sidewalk cafes and hanging out in a few bars.

We would love to see more of Rudi & MJ on the street.

Cat of the Week #13: Love, the guardian of Cafe Nonno

Located in Shiga-ken’s Omihachiman’s old town district, there lives a cat who gets famous because of his way of saying thanks to the human who adopts him. This approximately 1 year old cat is named “Rabu” (らぶ), or “Love” in japanese and he lives with the owner of Cafe Nonno (町家 Cafe NONNO / カフェ ノンノ).

Love the cat loves to sit and guard in front of Cafe Nonno during opening hours.

The reason behind his rise of fame is because he voluntarily becomes the protector of Cafe Nonno and resembles a maneki neko.

If a cat is willing to stay in front of a cafe, that cafe is definitely extra attractive.

Love was adopted by Cafe Nonno’s owner. According to the owner, Love was found as a lost cat in front of a nearby museum. The owner took the cat home and gave him a temporary name called Rabu/Love because of a heart shaped pattern on his nose.

The heart shaped nose is not obvious but once you saw it, it is tough to miss.

While the owner waits for Love’s possible former owner to claim the cat, he brings Love to work and back on daily basis. The owner noticed that Love enjoys observing customers and pedestrians by sitting outside the cafe, as if Love is guarding the cafe.

Are you staring at my nose?

Love gained a lot of attention from customers and passerby. Everyone praises Love being cute and loyal. Love’s adorable behaviour makes human enjoy snapping picture of Love in front of the cafe and then tweet or post to social networking sites.

A napping cat guarding a cafe? It's photo shooting time.

Nobody claims Love back. Cafe Nonno’s owner decided to make Love as the official resident of his house and also the guardian of the Cafe. Cardboard stations, food and drinks, pillows and cat friendly items have been set up in storefront to keep Love comfortable.

Love's cardboard station with a notice declaring Love as official staff of Cafe Nonno.

Love's station is quite spacious. On top of that, it is made of CARDBOARD BOXES!

"Go on, you tip tip I nap nap." Love as a successful maneki neko when not guarding.

The story of Love guarding the cafe owner as a symbol of gratitude is quite well known now.

Some may think that the owner might be forcing the cat to stay outside of the cafe, but the truth is Love is volunteering to stay there. This is because the owner also owns other cats but only Love is interested in being the guardian.

Even though he likes to protect his owner and the cafe, he is still a prince at home.

The owner also added that Love loves to butt-in in between the owner and costumers, trying to join in the human conversations, and also snatching attention when the owner is socializing with his other cats.

Cat of the Week #12: Lincoln, the quadriplegic kitty

Lincoln is a special black kitty. When Lincoln was about 4 weeks old, he was found by a woman in the middle of a north St. Louis’s sidewalk, completely immobile. The woman fostered the kitten and tried to look for injuries but she can’t seem to be able to find any. All Lincoln can do was just lying on his side. That woman contacted Tenth Life, a non-profit organization from St. Louis that saves stray cats & kittens in that area, prioritizing those with special needs.

Unable to move his limbs, Lincoln was a tiny kitten who can only lie on his side.

Tenth Life’s vet diagnosed Lincoln as a quadriplegic kitten who might had a spinal or neurological injury and physical therapy is needed in order for Lincoln to be able to move again. It is a tough job but Lincoln’s new foster parents, Bobbi and John, took this news as a challenge, and they are performing physical therapy with little Lincoln 6 times a day, pumping his little legs, stretching them out, and supporting him as he learns to walk again.

Lincoln doing his physical therapy routine or the kitty yoga.

"I'm a taco!" These towels play a huge role in helping Lincoln to walk.

With supports from praises and rolled up towels, Lincoln took his first few steps.

It took 10 days of consistent physiotherapy for Lincoln to make his first wobbly step. According to Lincoln’s foster mom, Lincoln stretches his front legs forward and then stretches out his back legs as far as the legs go, mimicking the physiotherapy sessions, in the morning and after each nap. It is cute and adorable because Lincoln might have an idea that the physiotherapy is a good thing. At that point of time, Lincoln progressed to climb up and then jump off from short heights, such as chairs and couch, climbing the stairs all the way up to the second floor, play with other cats in the house, living with the heart of a normal kitten.

Lincoln is a hardworker. That's why things get better.

Lincoln bats the toy for the first time.

Understand the way of recovery does not stop him from taking kitty naps.

Nothing's better than snuggling with your favorite mouse, eh Lincoln?

This is Lincoln today: playing with various toys, other cats, and his shadow.

Tenth Life has done a great job in raising Lincoln. Lincoln is now growing to become a handsome cat.

Such fine kitty with his classy bow tie kitty collar.

Cat of the Week #11: Nono, the sitting cat who relaxed like a human

I bet most of you had seen this clip of a cat sitting upright in the park while holding onto the fence. It went viral because of its simple combination of the cat, relaxing music (even though it is from iMovies) and lovely evening in the park makes life looks wonderful. If you have not seen it, you must:

If you ever feel curious about the settings and if the cat was alone, we say that this is the cat’s routine in the park. You can read about its behind-the-scene here.

Nono chills on the fence while enjoying the sunset.

"Look at my feet," those dainty lil feet are just cute.

Another chill evening of sitting by the fence and feeling good, eh?

This cat is named Nono (のの or ののちゃん because he is such a fine gentlemen). He is 12 years old and he lives in Yokohama, Japan.

Meet Nono-chan, the cat who sits and chill.

Nono is a cute and cool cat.

A recently added clip from Nono-chan’s owner shows that Nono loves to chill.

After the first hit of Nono sitting on the fence, we have a latest clip of Nono sitting on a white plastic chair!

If you follow Nono’s blog, you might noticed that Nono always sits like a mermaid. This is because Nono was sick and had went through surgeries from the vet. Most probably the paralysis was caused by the illness? Even though Nono is not a physically healthy cat, he is well loved. His owner loves him so much: Nono always get to eat good fishes and frequently being taken to the park for fresh air.

"Ambush! Wait, I think I will just nap here..."

Aside from the fence and the bench, sitting on the side of the road is fun too.

Nono is a very cute cat. Life is great to know that Nono is loved. Let’s hope everything goes well for him  ❤

Nono is a very cool cat. We love him so much.

Cat of the Week #10: Tard, the grumpy cat.

Cats are loved by the internet. On the last week, one new cat had gone viral through a Reddit post. Meet Tard, the grumpy cat.

The picture that sparks the fame of a grumpy cat named Tard.

Tard is the daughter of two common housecats. Her name originated from “tartar sauce”. She is around 9 months old when her picture went viral.

Another angle of Tard with a grumpy face.

She might look like a snowshoe, but she is not.

"Nothing to see here, move along." Tard sitting with a grumpy look.

The owner suspects that she is a dwarf kitty. Her back legs don’t work well and she tends to fall over. Good news are Tard’s personality is not as grumpy as her look and the personality that she portrays is the same as a normal cat.

Tard's a dwarf kitty, a very cute dwarf kitty.

Even though her movements are not as agile as normal cats, she is cute!

Tard is in the middle of a good belly rub.

A short clip of grumpy cat’s belly rub time!

Aside from Tard being the special one in the litter, there is another cat having the same mutation: her brother, Pokey the tuxedo. Regardless of their appearance, they are living a good life.

Meet Pokey the tuxedo, Tard's brother. Together we have grumpy cats.

This is the picture of Pokey and Tard’s mother. Apparently she looks like a normal calico.

Tard's parents are actually two normal looking cats. This is Tard's mom.

More videos of Tard the grumpy cat can be found here.

Cat of the Week #9: The cat with crown

Tokuhiro Kawai (川井徳寛) is a surrealist painter from Tokyo. He creates fairy-tale like surreal paintings through traditional oil techniques. His creations are beautiful, dramatic, fun and fascinating but one of his painted subject might have exceed him in gaining recognition on the cyberspace: the bicolor scottish fold king cat with crown.

The first oil painting of the Scottish fold living the dream. ("Idea of a Certain Cat", 2004, Oil and Tempera on Board)

The cat in the painting looks familiar to you? Maybe it is because you have seen the other famous painting in reddit / tumblr / facebook / pinterest / blogs:

If a cat understands the concept of royalty, will this be a cat's default portrayal? ("飼い猫の幻視 / Tame Cat’s Delusion", 2006, Oil on Canvas)

Tokuhiro Kawai told Vice that “Tame Cat’s Delusion” is a painted scene showing the eternal fulfillment of the cat who desires to be the boss of the world and being crowned by angels and becomes a king. More cats in the same style:

More cats! Glorious cats doing the best they can in whatever cats do. ("燻る思考たち / Smolder Thinking", 2008, Oil on Canvas)

Sometimes we will think: how do cats actually perceive everything around them? Is it all about living a simple life or they think they rule everything? Where do these cherubs come from?

The Scottish fold living the life. ("猫のなりわい / The occupation of a cat" 2010, oil on canvas)

The cats look cute and real because of their well painted furs, cats’ expressions and the artist’s oil painting technique. All details add up to a lively cute cat with thoughts of its own.

The scottish fold being portrayed as the one who has drumstick in mind. ("それぞれの思考 / Each idea", 2005, oil and tempera on board)

The scottish fold with crown is a crowd’s favorite for it expresses the cat’s thoughts and feeling well. One of the netizen tried to dress a look-alike pet cat with red handkerchief but the result is hilarious.

When life imitates art, hilarity ensues. Note: The real cat is not the cat in the painting.

We are not sure if Tokuhiro Kawai’s scottish fold is based on a real Scottish fold. We hope it is; based on the cat’s colour pattern on the series are quite consistent. For now, all we knew is that Tokuhiro Kawai had 2 family cats in his life: the first cat lived for 16 years until Tokuhiro Kawai is 12 years old and the second cat lived for 19 years since Tokuhiro Kawai was 17. He no longer keeps a cat so cat is not the main subject in his paintings… for now.

Check out Tokuhiro Kawai’s other artworks at this site and also his blog. His cat-less paintings are awesome too.

Cat of the Week #8: Puneo and Kuchi

Puneo and Kuchi (ぷねお&くっちぃ; together known as Punekuchi) are two tabby brothers from Japan. We love cats with fun-to-watch habits so we really adore this pair of cat brothers that enjoy to sit side by side with each other.

Kuchi the tabby on the left; Puneo with white socks on the right.

Puneo and Kuchi are always together. They share the same interest and something about them never change after reaching adulthood.

Puneo and Kuchi likes to hangout on the table, in front of the food, watching.

When the brothers were young, they like to watch their owner eat.

"Focus!" Young Puneo and Kuchi likes to watch their owner eat.

The brothers might be physically different but their habits remain the same.

Apparently food watching is their entertainment. Maybe it is because of the anticipation that motivates them to sit and stare? Don’t worry, their diet is always cat food.

Food watching is a serious business for Puneo and Kuchi.

Puneo and Kuchi try to analyze a cup of sorbet.

Aside from food sharing, they have some cute habits that they kept since they were young.

Puneo the kitten being the big spoon with a paw on top of Kuchi.

Puneo enjoys to be the big spoon for Kuchi?

Kuchi stole some sips from the cup while Puneo did what a kitten does best: clueless plus alert.

The adult version Kuchi stealing some sips. Look how huge Kuchi has grown.

The brothers shared some funny moments too.

Due to some circumstances, Puneo and Kuchi ended up wearing the cone of shame.

How did this happen? Puneo and Kuchi watch anime with the cone of shame.

We love Puneo and Kuchi. To know more about them, check out their photo gallery and youtube channel (even though they have been semi-active for a while).

Cat of the Week #7: Real kitty coin banks

Most of us are familiar with Strapya’s Itazura Kitty Coin Bank (Itazura = prank). It’s a cute coin bank resembling a cardboard box with a tiny fish tray on top. Put your coin on the fish tray, the box will meow “nyan~” and followed by a plastic cat peeping out of the box and took your coin in with its left hand with another “nyan~” as a kthxbai.

This action based kitty coin bank attracts a lot of attention from human and animals.

Choko the cat demonstrating the correct way to use the Itazura coin bank.

Some cats know how to use Kitty coin bank repetitively for own amusement.

Although some are a little bit aggressive.

The hype of Itazura coin bank also inspired a fun new game for the cats and owners. With a cut up cardboard box that simulates the coin bank, a cat, and loads of coins, you will have a real Itazura kitty coin bank! Daihuku the cat will demonstrate the real Itazura kitty coin bank with a hint of greed: its swiftness depends on the value of yen. The clip was picked up by NHK’s “Good Morning Japan”.

Real kitty coin bank starred Daihuku had sparked a new trend. Cat owners who had watched the clip are eager to create a kitty coin bank for their cats too. Some real kitty coin bank is a little bit too dangerous.

This kitty coin bank is a bit too desperate.

The hole for the kitty coin bank is too small but the game is still fun for the cat.

Small demonstration of real kitty coin bank.

Blooper, blooper, blooper. Not all kitty coin banks are successful.

It is a fun activity for you and your cat. Why not make a banker out of your cats? Some bankers start young.

Have fun!

Cat of the Week #6: Georgie, grandma’s holiday cosplay cat

Ever since redditor Ska_Jones‘s grandma received a camera phone for Christmas of 2011, his grandma has been sending him pictures of Georgie the cat in various costumes for each holiday. This is the original post of where it gets viral and the following picture was sent to celebrate Ska_Jones’s birthday:

Georgie wearing grandma's handmade birthday costume. We doubt she knew what's going on.

Georgie’s expression is definitely hilarious for trying to comprehend the whole situation while being uninterested to participate in everything; a classic cat behaviour. The post received a lot of responses and visual description of the incident.

A crowd favorite response from shitty_watercolor towards Georgie the cat perfectly captures the conflict inside Georgie.

Another popular visual response to Georgie the cat in birthday costume by Shitty_EtchASketch.

The crowd demands for more of Georgie in various holiday costumes after Ska_Jones claimed that he has more pictures of Georgie sent by his grandma. Five days after the original post, Ska_Jones delivers. Pictures of Georgie in various holiday costumes are placed in an imgur album and might have new addition whenever possible. Georgie the cat looks great in her costumes, albeit with an unimpressed expression written on her kitty face.

Just Georgie being patriotic (?) on 4th of July.

The sombrero for Cinco de Mayo is a bit heavy for Georgie.

Only Georgie can handle such big easter bunny ears.

Personal favorite: veteran's day Georgie.

All green for St. Patrick's day.

Fancy to fish on father's day?

Happy mother's day!

Always on top of the trend, Georgie transform into the breaded cat.

We love Georgie and the cool grandma. We sure hope to see Georgie in halloween costumes, that would be fun!
